Doctors at Sechenov University have developed a new approach to treating diffuse B-cell large cell lymphoma using genetic analysis to determine the subtype of the tumor. This allowed doctors to prescribe personalized treatment, which significantly increased the effectiveness of the treatment. While conventional therapy only helped a third of patients, the new method showed much better results: The treatment was effective for 95-100% of participants. An example is the 30 volunteers who participated in the study, most of whom suffered from common stages of the disease.

Professor Elena Baryakh, head of the hematology department at City Clinical Hospital No. 52, said that 21 out of 30 patients completed treatment and all showed a complete response. While the treatment of the remaining 9 people continues, positive results were obtained in 8 of them. Baryakh noted that the study did not strictly select for age or other characteristics, confirming the versatility of the new treatment approach.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a malignant tumor in which uncontrolled division of tumor cells occurs in the lymph nodes. It is considered one of the most aggressive forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and often leads to rapid progression of the disease. The disease mainly affects people around the age of 60 and its symptoms can vary, making diagnosis and treatment difficult.
