Apple informed its employees on February 27 of its plans to close the Special Projects Group (SPG). Part of the special group will move to the AI development department, while others will be able to apply to work on other teams in the company. Bloomberg writes about this citing sources.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, the final decision on the project was made in recent weeks. Bloomberg previously reported a possible delay in the launch of electric cars until 2028 and a reduction in technical specifications for autonomous driving from level four to level two plus.
Apple began working on the Project Titan electric car in 2014. The company planned to create a fully self-driving, self-driving electric car with a limousine-like interior and voice navigation.
Titan has become one of Apple’s most expensive projects in recent years, costing “hundreds of millions of dollars” a year. However, the final prototype was never ready after ten years of work.
