The announcement comes amid a growing trend in the software industry of companies integrating generative AI into existing products to improve operational efficiency.

What does Microsoft want? Equip each department with its own dedicated Copilot. According to Charles Lamann, Microsoft’s corporate vice president, “We want each department to have its own Co-Pilot.” This will build on Copilot’s existing general, sales and customer service offerings.

Financial Copilot’s first features include simplifying the process of analyzing the difference between budget and actual figures, automating the process of ensuring data consistency across multiple sources in Excel spreadsheets, and speeding up the collection process by using automation in a familiar Outlook interface.

Copilot can also access information stored in popular enterprise platforms such as SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365. Lamann said there are plans to expand functionality this year.
