The company has open sourced the Grok-1 language model under the Apache 2.0 license. In torrent format, the company offers to download 300 GiB files with MoE model weights with 314 billion parameters.
Musk decided to open the data amid his accusations against OpenAI. The businessman filed a lawsuit against the company, of which he is one of the founders. In the statement of claim, the businessman accused the promoter of marketing an initially non-commercial project. Musk also called OpenAI a closed-source subsidiary of Microsoft.
In response, OpenAI published some of the internal correspondence with Elon Musk during the period when he was still a shareholder in the company. From the materials it follows that it was Musk who insisted on raising “billions of dollars” for OpenAi.
Elon Musk launched xAI as a competitor to OpenAI in the summer of 2023. The company has raised $500 million from investors and is targeting $1 billion.
