New technology makes it possible to replace some of the cement in new concrete products with a product derived from recycling old concrete. The essence of the method is the chemical processing of cement-sand stone chips in a slightly alkaline aqueous solution without the need for special equipment. As a result, it is possible to replace up to 30% of cement with additives in new concrete mixtures, while maintaining the strength of structures.
This development is of great importance in the context of the construction waste generation problem that concerns the whole world. In Russia, the issue of recycling old buildings built in the 50s and 60s, in which a significant amount of cement-sandstone remains, is especially acute. Experts say up to 20% of this material remains unused, even though it can be successfully recycled and reused.
