According to the Artemis program, the USA plans to land American astronauts on the Moon in 2026 and then organize similar expeditions regularly starting from 2028. Japan also expressed its desire to participate in these missions, and it was stated that two Japanese astronauts would be required to take part in the missions. They will control the Luna Cruiser rover, which is currently being developed by Japanese companies led by Toyota Motor Corporation.

The Artemis program was announced by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration in spring 2019 and consists of three phases.
