The new L-series laptops take design cues from the recently launched ThinkPad T 2024 series; These include a more comfortable keyboard layout with rearranged Ctrl/Fn keys and tactile cues for improved touch typing. The size of the touchpad has also increased.

In terms of processors, the ThinkPad features Intel Core Ultra processors, offering L-series, U, and H-series variants. AMD fans will also be pleased to see an upgrade that will replace the new models’ Ryzen 7030 processors with Ryzen 7035. Features such as DDR5 memory, PCIe NVMe Gen 4 storage and USB4 connectivity. Integrated graphics also received an upgrade, moving from Vega to the more powerful RDNA2 architecture.

Memory can be expanded up to 64 GB using two DDR5-SO-DIMM slots on the L14 G5 and L16 G1 models. Memory capacity has also increased with the L series turning to larger M.2 2280 drives. Batteries are offered in 46.5 or 57 Wh capacities.

The screen resolution of both laptops is still limited to 1920×1080. However, the L14 G5 has a brighter main panel thanks to a new film that increases the brightness from 300 nits to 400 nits.

AMD versions of the ThinkPad L14 G5 and L16 G1 will be available in March this year and will have a starting price of $999. Those who want the Intel models will have to wait until April for the base price of $1,179.
