Ozon and Wildberries markets plan to create their own insurance companies. This will allow increasing profits from financial services, experts told Kommersant.

Ozon aims to attract more than 20 specialists in the first stage and the launch of the first products is planned for the second half of this year. The team will be led by former head of Rosbank Insurance, Denis Gavrilov. Wildberries reported that they are also considering launching insurance products within the fintech area, but did not reveal details. Yandex Market did not respond to the publication’s request.
According to the managing partner of the Marillion group of companies, Sergei Kharitonov, the minimum authorized capital should be 300 million rubles. In addition, “funds will be needed to cover the initial maintenance costs of the company before the start of active operations, and we can talk about a significant amount,” he noted.
Most market participants agree that purchasing a licensed insurance company can be more profitable than creating one from scratch. In some cases, partnering with existing companies using the White Label model will be effective. However, there is also the risk of keeping skeletons in the closet of your previous business.
