This discovery could be a real salvation for millions of people suffering from diabetes.
Scientists inserted the gene coding for human insulin into the DNA of a cow embryo. As a result, a heifer was born that, having reached maturity, began to produce insulin-containing milk.
So far the exact concentration of insulin in milk is unknown. However, according to scientists, even one gram per liter will be enough because an ordinary cow produces 30-40 liters of milk per day!
A new discovery has many advantages. For example, a new source of insulin (transgenic cows) could be an alternative to current insulin production methods that require complex equipment.
We must also not forget about accessibility. Milk is a more affordable product than insulin made from bacteria or yeast. In addition, there will be no need to establish special factories to produce this insulin, just having a farm is enough.
