Using data from the URAGAN muon hordoscope at MEPhI, scientists discovered an increase in the counting rate of cosmic ray muons in the period from 01:39 to 01:44. This event, known as GLE, occurs as a result of powerful solar flares.

According to scientists, only 73 cases have been recorded since 1942, when such events were first recorded. The event discovered at MEPhI and called GLE-74 was likely the result of a powerful X1.1 class solar flare that occurred at 01:33 and was recorded on Earth 8 minutes later.
