Results of a new study show that physical activity increases REM sleep latency, which is the time it takes for a person to enter REM sleep (when we dream). This may suggest that exercise helps increase the duration of the deeper stages of sleep.
The team used cutting-edge wearable technology to track the sleep and activity levels of 82 teenagers. Especially wrist trackers.
The study confirmed many of the results of previous studies. For example, the fact that physical activity (at low and moderate to vigorous intensity) is associated with deeper and more restorative sleep. Better sleep was associated with more energy and less stress the next morning.
