Professor Tomohisa Toda from Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany and his colleagues have developed a method that allows them to tag RNA molecules and track them in brain cells. They found that about 68% of the labeled molecules persisted throughout the life of the mice.
Scientists believe that these “eternal” molecules may explain the aging process of the brain and the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Further research will help us understand what functions these molecules perform and how they affect the aging process of brain cells.
