“It was decided to choose one of the already existing and publicly available national repositories instead of creating a new platform,” the Ministry of Digital Development reported, quoted by Kommersant.
If the government approves this decision, the experiment will resume in the coming months (the project was initially planned to launch before the end of April).
For the creation of the deposit it was planned to allocate 1.39 billion rubles of funds from the liquidated Rosinfokominvest. Now the Ministry of Digital Development wants to use them to support the most popular projects in the field of open source software and the creation of new IT products.
A mandatory condition for recipients will be the placement of products in Russian open source software repositories.
- Repositories are needed for the joint development of open source software by IT specialists. It differs from a closed one in that it is not owned by a specific company and is openly available to all developers.
- On the basis of such software, a specialist can write his own program using the rules of the license agreement.
