Pavel Durov commented on the situation with the removal of Telegram from the App Store in China.
According to him, in this way China is acting not against the messenger, but against Apple itself. At the same time, Telegram is the most downloaded Android application in the country.
According to Google Play, Telegram is the most downloaded Android mobile app in China.
Last week, China forced Apple to remove apps like Telegram from its Chinese App Store. We haven’t seen any decrease in shipments from China – and I don’t think Telegram was the main target of this change.
This was a step against Apple itself: the Chinese government, on behalf of all its citizens, is switching from iPhone to Android smartphones from Chinese companies, such as Xiaomi, produced. Unlike the iPhone, most Android smartphones allow you to download apps from app stores, which is why more and more Chinese users are switching to Android.
Once again, Apple has shot itself in the foot with its centralized “walled garden” app policy. As a result of these changes, the iPhone’s market share in China will continue to grow. Prioritizing profit over free users is not the best strategy.
