Google’s updated terms of use will go into effect on May 22, 2024, the company said in a bulletin.
Main changes:
- Google has included additional terms for the use of generative AI in its terms of use. The company has added some clarifications related to AI. For example, it will not claim rights to original content generated by services based on artificial intelligence.
- Part of the clarification refers to “illegal actions.” The corporation said it would provide additional details and examples of what abuse of its services and interference with its work is unacceptable.
- For users outside the US, the company has added clarifications to the indemnification and limitation of liability sections “to avoid misinterpretation of the terms under local laws or customs.”
- Part of the clarification refers to disputes with the corporation. Google clarified that if a user violates the terms, the company may not only suspend or terminate access to the services, but also take other legal remedies under applicable law.
- Some services will reportedly change names. The company did not provide details in the letter.
