Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius said in an interview with the Decoder podcast that the company’s cars will not support the new generation of CarPlay.

Mercedes-Benz will not completely abandon support for CarPlay and Android Auto. But these systems continue to operate in the same form as they do now. That is, they cannot control other screens or machine functions.

The automaker intends to develop its own system, a major update of which is planned for 2025.

The short answer is no, but you need to look at it from a broader perspective. Everything that happens in that digital window, in your car and in the world, is more than just infotainment. It’s not just the music you listen to or the phone call you make.

Another revolution is taking place in the field of police driving. So our Mercedes-Benz operating system is actually the central nervous system in the brain of the entire car, with the infotainment system being one of four zones. The entire operating system, the infotainment system, the guided driving, all the body, exterior and interior functions of the car, the entire drive system, battery management, all of it.

All this is a single holistic software architecture. So if you want to create a great customer experience, you need to think about it completely. And only the manufacturer can communicate all this uniformly.

Nobody, not one tech company, will even try to do it all.
