The hare listened to the advice, took a bath and stood up in the wind. But when the salt water from the sea dried up, the skin cracked and the poor hare began to suffer more than ever. Then Okuninushi came up to him, doubled over under the weight of the load. He asked the hare what had happened to him. The hare said that she lived on an island, far from Izumo, that she wanted to cross the sea, but could not find her way. So he decided to cheat: he called the crocodiles and argued who is more in Izumo, them or the hares? The hare invited the crocodiles to lie down in a row on the sea and, jumping on their backs, counted. So, he crossed to the shore. In the end, the hare revealed his intention, but he did not have time to escape, the last crocodile grabbed him and skinned him. Then there were those evil yasogami brothers… Okuninushi took pity on the hare and advised him to swim in fresh water, at which time he collected medicinal pollen from the water lilies. Okuninushi helped the hare and healed it. The hare was not simple, he was able to make Yagamihime reject all the brothers and choose Okuninushi. The Yasogami then tried to get revenge on their brother, but that’s a whole different story.
There is another version. The goddess Amaterasu traveled with her entourage. They were looking for a place for a palace in the Inaba area. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a white hare appeared. She grabbed Amaterasu’s dress with her teeth and gave her a sign of where to build the palace. In honor of the white hare, the Hakuto Jinja Shrine was built.
