OpenAI held a presentation where it introduced several new products and major changes to existing ones.
The main announcement was the GPT-4o language model, which now underlies ChatGPT. It is available for paid users and user settings, but with a paid subscription the chatbot will work faster.
GPT-4o can analyze and convert audio, image and text in real time.
In all tests, GPT-4o takes first place. It is faster than Google Gemini, its main competitor.
GPT-4o will be distributed gradually starting today.
Mac app
OpenAI has unveiled an app for macOS that allows users to chat with ChatGPT.
The application can also analyze images on the screen and screenshots.
The app is available today to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Free users can download it in the “coming weeks.”
A Windows version exists “later this year.”
The OpenAI Store is now available to everyone
OpenAI has allowed all users to create their own ChatGPT-based chatbots and host them on the GPT Store.
This feature was activated on January 10, but until today was only available to paid subscribers.
Search on the Internet
ChatGPT can now search the web for information using data from “relevant and trusted” sources. The source with a link to the site will be given at the end of the answer.
The bot will contact external sites if it cannot answer a question using data from its database.
The feature is only available with Plus and Enterprise subscriptions, but the company said it will be coming soon and will be free for users.
Developer discounts
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that developers who want to work with GPT-4o get access to an API that is half the price and half the speed of GPT-4-turbo.
