According to the report, National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) chairman Gavin Stevens announced that these devices, designed to “fire” electromagnetic beams, were under development and could be operational within months, although the timeline is expected to be longer.
The backpack-mounted device, developed by the Defense Science and Technology Laboratory and inspected by the Department of Defense, targets electric bicycle and scooter motors. It emits an electromagnetic pulse, making the vehicle think its engine is overheating, causing the vehicle to shut down and stall.
Line of sight is required for the device to operate effectively.
