M.Video-Eldorado Group, a leading Russian company in the field of e-commerce and retail of electronics and household appliances (Moscow Exchange: MVID), analyzed the development of the Russian smartphone market in April-June 2022. Two thirds of devices purchased by Russians in the second quarter are smartphones from Chinese brands. The high level of confidence, the variability in the assortment and the wide representation allow them to meet the current demand and partially compensate for the drop in sales of other important brands. Xiaomi, realme, POCO were the most in demand, despite the general decline in purchasing activity and changes in supply chains, sales of these brands showed an increase of around 7% in units compared to the year past.
According to M.Video-Eldorado, in the second quarter of this year, the demand in the Russian market for smartphones may reach about 4.4 million units and more than 100 billion rubles. The average check will be about 22.3 thousand rubles, which is 4% less than last year. In the second quarter, the Russians gave preference to Chinese manufacturers, already in demand or gaining popularity, offering high-quality devices with up-to-date technical characteristics for various budgets and needs.
