This announcement comes after a user on ResetEra asked Steam support about the possibility of transferring an account through a will.

Steam support responded: “Unfortunately, Steam accounts and games are non-transferable. Steam Support cannot allow anyone to access your account or merge your account with another account.” This means the games die along with the account owner.

This policy is consistent with the Steam User Agreement, which clearly states that the account belongs solely to the owner and cannot be transferred to anyone else, including family members.

The user agreement also prohibits the disclosure of passwords and the sale of rights to use your account or games.

Users should take these restrictions into account when planning their properties, as violating the terms of the agreement may result in account suspension. Therefore, account owners need to look for alternative solutions to recover their game libraries.
