Microsoft is concerned about the OpenAI-Apple deal that will be announced at WWDC.

After the introduction of new AI functions in iOS 18, which will work based on OpenAI technology, a large number of servers will be required for their hardware operation. ChatGPT and other OpenAI products run on Microsoft servers, so the challenge now facing Microsoft is how to support the growing demand for servers in the future.

Additionally, the OpenAI-Apple partnership will compete with Copilot, Microsoft’s own chatbot powered by OpenAI technology. But from a financial perspective, Microsoft will likely make more money from the Apple-OpenAI deal.

Apple engineers have developed OpenAI technology with a prototype in 2023, around the last WWDC. In testing, they were able to connect ChatGPT to Siri, “creating an impressive demonstration of how Siri handles more complex queries.”

iOS 18 with new AI features will be presented on June 10 at WWDC. [9to5Mac]
