It should be noted that currently almost all ATMs in Russia and the world run on the Windows operating system, owned by Microsoft.
Tinkoff, as part of its import substitution strategy, has developed its own software (including backend and user interfaces) on the open source Linux operating system.
At the end of 2022, Tinkoff launched the first national ATM, Odin. The device became the first ATM created entirely in Russia using domestic components.
“Linux is an open source system and the development of software compatible with it makes us independent of any provider, including foreign ones. Now we will independently manage the creation of products and implement the necessary application functions in the ATM,” said Pavel Vlasov, deputy director of the Tinkoff payment systems department, quoted in the press service.
