The Verny chain faced a hacker attack that caused bank card payments to not be accepted in around a thousand stores. Due to the website and app not working, online ordering is also not available. This situation continues for the third day. Previously, a similar problem was observed with the SDEK delivery service.

According to Kommersant, last weekend, June 1 and 2, Verny stores in the south of the capital stopped accepting bank cards to pay for purchases.

As of Monday, June 3, the problems have not been resolved. According to specialized Telegram channels, this situation is typical not only of the “Verny” in the capital, but also of the chain’s stores in other cities.

The network itself told the publication that the company was attacked by hackers, causing system failures.

“We are working to restore functionality to all systems and customer services and will inform our customers and suppliers of all changes immediately,” the chain commented.

A market source estimated Verny’s current losses at 300 million rubles and predicted damages of 500 million rubles if the problem cannot be resolved in the next two days.

Previously, on May 26, a global disruption in the work of the logistics operator SDEK began. The company suffered a large-scale hacker attack, for which the Head Mare group claimed responsibility. The service’s website and app were down for several days and the pickup point suspended acceptance and delivery of packages. The company did not return to full operation until the weekend.

Experts point out that Verny could have been attacked using an encryption virus, as was the case with SDEK. Restoring data and resuming normal operation can be difficult and time-consuming.
