After OpenAI announced last week that new language models for ChatGPT were released, o1-mini is now available to a select group of users. Codenamed Project Strawberry, the technology can reason like humans, giving more effective responses.
Initially available to users who subscribed to ChatGPT Plus or Team, ChatGPT o1-mini is now available to users with basic and free accounts on the platform. To check if your assistant includes the new model, simply click on ChatGPT Auto at the top of the screen and search for the option.
Not all free users will be able to test o1-mini, however. It looks like only a select list of people will be able to test the new model, but the developer didn’t clarify whether there was any criteria behind the selections or if this was a random distribution.
o1-mini specializes in codes
ChatGPT o1-mini is an AI model that, unlike its older brother, operates with reduced capabilities, as its name suggests. At the launch, OpenAI described that this technology focuses on offering greater energy efficiency and was developed to help users create code.
On the other hand, the standard ChatGPT o1 is a more advanced model that can perform with high accuracy rates on questions related to mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, etc. Both technologies use a laborious learning system that develops reasoning skills for more accurate answers.
For now, o1-mini is limited to replying to only 50 messages, while o1 is limited to 30. In the future, OpenAI should make ChatGPT o1-mini available for all users to test.
