Twitch DJ: This is Twitch’s new program for streaming copyrighted music.

Twitch continues to explore categories beyond gaming. And although there is a huge selection of options on the platform, the truth is that many of them are not recognized within the platform, despite the fact that they either have a common denominator or are quite numerous. One of them is music categories and especially DJs.

Until now, there hasn’t been a clean DJ category, and Twitch wants to change that and has announced the launch of the Twitch DJ Program, a new category on the platform for all those streamers who host live music sessions. The introduction of this new section is not only intended to separate content, but also to balance some of the problems that exist with online music content and copyright.

In this sense, one of the key points of the recently announced The Twitch DJ program is precisely that the platform will help cover copyright costs. How? Percentage of profits received from live DJ broadcasts artists and record labels will be paid ethereal music. The cost will be shared by Twitch with the DJs.

Twitch DJ: half for the DJ, half for the fee

It will be distributed 50% to all new DJs streaming copyrighted content on Twitch. For DJs who are already on Twitch, the company will offer some sort of annual grant to help them make up the difference. In the future, the amount of the subsidy will be gradually reduced. Of course, DJs who are not yet monetizing will not have to pay any fees.

According to the company, the launch of the Twitch DJ program occurred because Twitch’s status quo regarding this type of content was not sustainable. That’s why, through Merlin, they have reached agreements with major rights holders such as Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony Music and hundreds of independent companies.

After the launch of this program, all non-member DJ streamers who broadcast content without the necessary rights are at risk receive DMCA notices and copyright sanctions, and therefore their channels may be closed or they may be able to go on air.
