The owner of xAI, Tesla and Neuralink abruptly ended a months-long legal battle with Sam Altman’s OpenAI, which it accused of abandoning its core mission of developing AI for the benefit of humanity rather than for commercial purposes. The BBC news service recalls that this occurred just a day before the next court hearing, where the ChatGPT developer’s request to dismiss the case was supposed to be considered.

The lawyers, however, argue that the statement uses language that will allow Musk to reopen the case at a later stage.

Musk’s decision was surprising given the businessman’s outburst earlier in the week following Apple’s announcement of a partnership with OpenAI to improve its Siri voice assistant and operating systems using ChatGPT.

Specifically, the billionaire wrote on X: “Apple has no idea what really happens when they send their data to OpenAI. They sell you as useless.”
