Resource 404 Media reports that hackers have hacked the Tile tag manufacturer.

The attackers were able to gain access to the company’s tools, which were used to process requests for placement of employees of the relevant authorities. Customer names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers have been leaked.

Tile herself did not report the incident in any way until the publication of 404 Media. Now the parent company of Life360 has released a statement:

Like many other companies, Life360 recently became the victim of a criminal extortion attempt. We have received emails from an unknown hacker claiming to have provided Tile customer information. We began investigating the dangerous incident and discovered unauthorized access to the Tile customer support platform (but not to our Tile service platform).

Potential data is made up of information such as names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, and certain device numbers. They do not include more sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords or login credentials, placement data or identification numbers, permissions issued because the platform supports customers and not the typical type of information.

We read that this incident was limited specifically to archaeological data from Tile support. We take this event seriously and are concerned about the security of customer information. We have taken and will continue to take further steps to further protect our system from attackers, and we have reported this event and initiated extortion to the authorities. We remain committed to keeping the world safe and secure online.
