Bloomberg shared some details of the agreement between Apple and OpenAI.

According to Mark Gurman, the two companies did not pay the other to use ChatGPT in iOS 18. The companies agreed that their strategic partnership resulted in brand exposure to the masses that was “equal or worth more than money” to the respective companies.

Apple’s goal, according to Gurman, is to make deals with AI companies. Apple receives “monetization revenue from artificial intelligence partners in chatbots on the company’s platforms.”

Currently, the ChatGPT iOS app supports payment for ChatGPT Plus through the App Store purchase system, which already brings Cupertino residents 15-30% of the revenue from these subscriptions.

Apple previously announced that ChatGPT will be a setting for iOS 18 users. [9to5]
