I watched the second season of the game “House of the Dragon”. Is the first one better or not?

Tonight, the second season of House of the Dragon, a prequel to the great Game of Thrones, premiered on the HBO streaming platform.

The first season is based on the first chapters of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, although it received many prestigious awards, received mixed reviews from critics and viewers,

The negatives were partly due to changes in lead actresses and a series of time jumps that resulted in a disjointed narrative. Will the creators be able to correct their own mistakes? After all, the first trailers for the second season promised a more coherent and emotionally rich narrative.

The tension is rising, the heroes are ready to kill

What is the series about?: The story focuses on House Targaryen and its region behind the Iron Throne of Westeros. The main theme of the season is the growing tension within the Targaryen family, which ultimately leads to a Civil War, like the Dance of the Dragons.

The second season of House of the Dragon begins with an updated opening title, which symbolizes the soft reboot of the series and reflects changes in the plot and mood of the season. While in the first season the opening title sequence featured a diorama of Old Valyria, in the second season this image was replaced with a more symbolic and atmospheric visual design.

Instead of an image of blood flowing through a scale model of West Harbor, we see a tapestry being gradually stitched together. Looks very impressive! This tapestry brings together families fighting for control of Westeros. The tapestry is reminiscent of medieval compositions used to illustrate sagas, battles and wars, giving the historical and epic nature of the subject matter. in other words, we hint in every possible way at a visible epic already this season.

The first episode of season two picks up almost immediately after the shocking events of the first season finale. Both sides of the conflict for the Iron Throne are still trying to win over other powerful houses for the upcoming war.

The writers and marketing team clearly wanted to reduce this to a simple green versus black conflict. Trite to simplify. Where the green ones are Aegon and Alicent, the black ones are Rhaenyra and Damon, and for everyone else there is a bloody, painful death. Everything is as usual.

The acting is impressive, just one is enough

As in the previous situation, actions were taken methodically, plunging into the unfolding political intrigues and family conflicts. Now there are no time jumps (for now at least!), which allows you to delve deeper into the world of the characters. But the famous ice wall and another famous family appear (guess which one!).

The actors are still the same excellent. Matt Smith and Evan Mitchell continue to play two of the most interesting characters in the universe. Smith is again masterfully intriguing as Daemon Targaryen, while Mitchella’s Prince Aemond remains a creepy villain with hints of a psychopath.

Of course, all the new characters are still far from the cool and beloved character of Tyrion Lannister in “Games of Thrones,” played by Peter Dinklage. Fans will still miss him intelligence, wit and endless sarcasm. Now there are only gloomy, selfish characters with their own internal drama.

The characters continue to comprehend the losses suffered at the end of the first season. Rhaenyra mourns the death of her son and the loss of her throne, Damon mourns the death of her brother and stepson, and Alicent mourns the loss of her husband and girlfriend. This emotional depth adds layers to their motivations and actions. It’s interesting to watch these characters, since their motivation is extremely clear, but what kind of actions of the heroes are decided on for production is therefore unclear.

This is especially true for a mother and the loss of a former child. This is where it could explode at any moment!

Ramin Djawadi’s superb soundtrack continues to play a major role in creating the game’s atmosphere. His music softens the impact of the atmosphere and helps maintain tension and drama.

The ending of the first episode stuns the viewer, forcing you to literally time the time until the next episode is released.

Overall, the second season of House of the Dragon immerses the viewer in an even more dramatic and tense atmosphere compared to the first season.

This atmosphere is created through a number of key elements, such as visual changes, emotional depth of characters, and algorithmic intrigue.

It is impossible to evaluate the entire second season based on the first episode, because the writers are just beginning to unwind the main storylines. However, it is already noticeable that this season maintains a strong tone, spirit and tradition of the saga, slowly building tension to ultimately break our hearts. Everything we love.
