The Replicator program, launched in 2023, envisions the deployment of thousands of autonomous systems in various areas, including autonomous ships, robotic aircraft and kamikaze drone swarms. This marks a move away from traditional drones, which the Pentagon considers “extremely labor-intensive” to produce.

Experts warn of potential risks associated with mass production of cheap and dangerous autonomous robots. There are fears that this technology could have dire consequences for the civilian population.

This development comes at a time when US concerns about strengthening ties between Russia and China are increasing.
