The company proposed that US authorities conduct an independent review of the products, but the Ministry of Commerce made a decision “probably based on the current geopolitical situation.”

Following the imposed restriction, the company will only be able to sell Threat Intelligence services and information security training in the United States.

Starting July 20, US authorities will prohibit Americans from making new transactions with Kaspersky Lab; Starting September 29, the company will not be able to provide software updates to existing customers.

According to Reuters, Kaspersky Lab has close ties to Russian authorities and use of the antivirus could pose critical risks to American companies, including government-owned ones.

Kaspersky Lab itself previously stated that the company is private and has no connections to the Russian government. According to its own data, in 2023 global solution sales increased by 11% and unaudited IFRS revenue amounted to $721 million.
