Michochondria are the cells’ “batteries” that provide them with energy. Mitochondrial dysfunction is thought to contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s disease and other brain disorders.
Researchers analyzed data from nearly 450 older adults who reported their psychological health over a 20-year period. Then scientists conducted a study on their brains. It turns out that the mitochondria of people with a more positive outlook on life are more efficient.
Scientists also found that positive emotions affect not neurons (the main cells of the brain) but glial cells, which were previously considered merely the “maintenance personnel” of neurons.
