The study, published in the journal Med, analyzed data from nearly 500,000 participants and found that those with this gene variant experienced symptoms such as increased body fat levels and changes in thyroid hormone levels.

Mattia Frontini, lead author of the study, noted the possibility of using existing thyroid dysfunction drugs to treat obesity in this genetic subgroup until clinical trials are conducted.
