According to the news on the Cabinet of Ministers’ website, the Russian government has extended the experiment with virtual social cards in public transport until the end of 2025. Now, beneficiaries will be able to apply for a virtual card and use it for travel, and the pilot project can be extended until December 31, 2025.

The experiment started on June 1, 2023 and is carried out on a voluntary basis in the relevant regions. The virtual card system was created for the convenience of citizens, but if they wish, they can continue to use normal cards without restrictions. To get a virtual card, you need to connect the Mir card to your smartphone through the Mir Pay application, apply through the government services portal and wait for the notification of readiness.

With a ready-made virtual card, all you have to do is touch your smartphone to the terminal while carrying it. The system will determine your eligibility for assistance and if approved, you will be able to benefit from free travel.
