“We know that AI technologies will make it cheap and easy to flood our networks with deepfakes used to mislead people. It is particularly disturbing to see AI votes being used to impersonate candidates during elections,” Rosenworcel wrote.

Despite a ban on all “AI calls” in February, telcos’ compliance with the law remains questionable, says the politician.

Rosenworcel has also been pushing political campaigns to disclose the use of AI in TV and radio ads. The proposal has faced opposition from FEC Chairman Sean Cooksey, who argues the FEC oversteps its authority.
