The technology was developed on the basis of a method for the synthesis of carbon materials from plant raw materials, created at the Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said the head of the laboratory Marina Lebedeva. The most suitable raw material turned out to be pine nut shells, from which electrodes for supercapacitors are made.
The technology has already been transferred to a Russian capacitor and supercapacitor manufacturer for further testing and a decision on its implementation, Lebedeva said. Supercapacitors are ideal for short-term power supply of low-power electronic devices because they can quickly accumulate and release charge, surviving tens of thousands of charge-discharge cycles.
