Experts consider several reasons for the failure. One option is related to US sanctions that will come into force on September 12 and could limit the work of American IT companies in Russia. Zecurion’s Vladimir Ulyanov believes that Google could avoid possible fines and reputational risks by refusing to provide services to the Russian segment.
IT specialist Dmitry Bevza notes that a version of a technical malfunction, which, as before, could occur periodically, is also being considered. Another hypothesis is related to new SIM cards, when used, the system may block registration to prevent possible “hijacking” of numbers.
According to Evgeniy Kharitonov, editor-in-chief of Ferra.ru, the problem may be related to technical difficulties on Google servers that serve both Gmail and other company services, including YouTube.
