It soon became clear that the Drug Enforcement Administration was also affected; in January, hackers gained access to a Microsoft Cloud test environment using stolen credentials that were later updated. Microsoft also notified the US Global Media Agency about the possible data theft, although no sensitive information may have been affected.

Microsoft is actively working with affected customers and is committed to strengthening cybersecurity measures. “We will continue to coordinate, support, and assist our customers in mitigation efforts,” said Microsoft spokesperson Geoff Johns.
