Previously, Proton Drive users could only view downloaded files and had to resort to third-party editing apps. The new Docs feature addresses this issue by letting you edit files directly in Proton Drive, but it still has some limitations. PCMag’s testing revealed formatting issues with .docx files.
Proton is aware of these issues and is working on fixes.
The company noted that Proton “remains committed to privacy,” although Apple Pages files are not supported and solutions for working with Excel-like documents are still in development.
Proton has also avoided adding artificial intelligence to its products, allowing files to be accessed locally on devices.
