The competition, part of the World AI Creator Awards (WAICAS), aims to bring attention to AI-generated bloggers but has caused discontent for a number of reasons.
“As a woman working in this field, I’m not surprised but disappointed,” said Sasha Lucioni, a researcher at Hugging Face AI. Critics say the competition “objectifies women” and that AI-generated bloggers “perpetuate unattainable ideals.”
Margaret Mitchell of Hugging Face noted that AI could “exacerbate existing problems” such as “promoting unrealistic beauty standards” that “negatively impact girls’ self-esteem”.
