The company doesn’t plan to leave those markets entirely, but it will change its strategy. Instead of promoting consoles, it will focus on its Game Pass service, cloud gaming, and accessories.
For example, in July, Microsoft released an Xbox Gaming ad for its Amazon Fire TV streaming media player with the slogan: “You don’t need an Xbox to play Xbox.”
The idea is that Game Pass subscribers can play games over remote servers using just a screen, media player, internet, and a controller.
Warren noted that Microsoft has had difficulty selling the Xbox in some EMEA countries. It doesn’t make sense to invest in marketing a product that isn’t in high demand.
