User returns to continue discussion on forum after 11-year ban (!)

After 100,000 hours of ban, a user of a classic internet forum returned to continue the discussion about a board game. The historic and interesting event took place on the website Something Terrible, one of the most traditional discussion centers on the internet.

Many questions arose from this astonishing display of dedication and discipline: Would Etherwind have put the ban’s expiration date on the calendar? Would they have created some kind of software that would automate the posting of the comment more than 11 years later? Moreover, Why did he come back to continue the discussion?

Other participants in the long-overdue discussion returned and acknowledged the efforts of their former forum friends. “It must have been great to hear your opinion,” one member said.

A moment of personal overcoming

In a document published on Google Docs, Etherwind talks about its experiences during the banIn the text, he admitted that he was going through a bad time when he was suspended and that being forced out of the forum helped him redesign his life.

“Etherwind is still a jerk and I’m still Etherwind,” he said. “But I’m not, not anymore. Not in the sense that matters,” he continued.

Faced with the end of the sentence and all the emotions surrounding the date, Etherwind decided this was a good opportunity to make a joke and enjoy the moment. So, he decided to create a reminder on the calendar as soon as that day came, then post a reply to the thread that got him banned and log out of the forum forever.

“As soon as the ban was over I logged in, posted a reply, and logged out again. I have no intention of going back. A friend forwarded me the replies to the post, and many of them made me laugh,” Etherwind said.
