By the end of this week, YouTube’s video loading speed will be reduced by 40%, and by the end of next week – by 70%. State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein announced the start of a slowdown on YouTube in Russia.
Rostelecom previously reported that its customers began to complain about the slow and unstable operation of YouTube in Russia. This is due not only to the actions of the Russian authorities, but also to YouTube’s “disregard” for its root infrastructure, Khinshtein noted.
“Everything that is happening is a consequence of the anti-Russian hosting policy, which systematically removes the channels of our public figures (bloggers, journalists, artists), whose position differs from the Western point of view,” the MP stressed.
Khinshtein added that the slowdown applies only to the desktop version of YouTube; the measure will not yet affect mobile communications.
