Asus’ brainchild has a more powerful processor with twice the number of cores and threads of the Steam Deck. There are also noticeable differences in the graphics department: the Ally X has one core with 12 compute units, while the Steam Deck has only 8.
Additionally, the new console is equipped with 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which is faster than Valve’s console’s 16GB LPDDR5.
The performance difference between the consoles is obvious. In games like Horizon Zero Dawn, the ROG Ally X achieves almost 20 FPS more performance. In other games, the frame rate increase is around 10-12 FPS.
But in some games the difference is minimal. In RDR 2 the difference is only 2 FPS, in Cyberpunk 2077 – 5 FPS.
It is also worth noting that the autonomy of the Asus ROG Ally X is significantly higher than the Steam Deck – the console works for 3 hours longer. But you will have to pay more for such improvements, since the ROG Ally X costs $ 150 more than the maximum version of the Steam Deck OLED.
