Scientists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) have presented a new algorithm that significantly increases the maneuverability of unmanned vehicles and helps to avoid road hazards. Its development could increase the maneuverability of vehicles by 10-20%, making their operation safer.
This algorithm allows autonomous vehicles to easily perform even complex maneuvers such as changing lanes, avoiding obstacles, and turning at uncontrolled intersections. Unlike current conservative models, which are usually very careful and avoid overtaking even in simple situations, the new approach is more flexible and adaptable. It analyzes the traffic situation in real time to choose the best maneuver.
The algorithm also focuses on a comfortable ride, ensuring smooth movement without sudden jolts and braking. This makes driving in an autonomous vehicle more enjoyable for passengers and improves the perception of safe driving. Testing the method in various scenarios, including roads with different traffic, demonstrated the effectiveness and reliability of the method.
