The company’s decision comes after widespread backlash from users who were unhappy with the intrusive ads and pop-ups that have been bothering them for the past few months. The “aggressiveness” was part of Microsoft’s strategy to move users to Windows 11, especially as the Windows 10 end of support date approaches on October 14, 2025. However, due to the overwhelming number of negative reviews, Microsoft will be stopping showing these ads.
Despite the pause, the company did not rule out the possibility of continuing the campaign as Windows 10 nears end of life.
Windows 11 market share recently reached a record 30%, thanks in large part to Microsoft’s marketing efforts and the growing excitement around new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs.
