Currently it was even possible to read FAT32 partitions exceeding this value, but their creation was only possible through software from other developers and not through Windows’ own native options. The size limit for FAT32 partitions was set in Windows 95, which was released over 30 years ago.

For now, there is no prediction that the change will be implemented in the stable version and rolled out to all Windows 11 consumers.

The process still has limitations

But the Windows 11 update still has a company-imposed limit: the operating system only allows individual files of a maximum of 4GB.

Moreover, anyone who performs the operation via navigation windows instead of Windows CMD will have to deal with the 32 GB limit, at least in this update, as the company has not made any changes for now.

FAT32 is increasingly being abandoned by other standards exFAT And NTFSbut it is still a favorite for formatting memory storage disks in older devices, including USB sticks and memory cards.
