The drug will remove old, non-functional cells with altered metabolism from the body. It is their accumulation that scientists associate with age-related organ and tissue dysfunction, as well as chronic inflammation.

The essence of the developers’ approach is to restore the body’s ability to remove old cells from tissues. To do this, they plan to use the mechanisms of adaptive immunity and want to learn how to help the immune system remove senescent cells, as happens at a young age, a representative of the university said.

Although the research is in its early stages, it is expected to be completed by 2026. In the future, the results will serve as a basis for the development of vaccination methods against senescent cell antigens.

Experts believe that specialists will face a number of difficulties, both biological and ethical.
