For three and a half years, the Ninebot ES1 electric scooter has become an indispensable vehicle for me. Thanks to him, I even started going to the country without a car.
A week ago, something terrible happened: my favorite transportation broke down.
When trying to go up a very steep hill (I even remember it was Olof Palme street), the scooter turned off and wouldn’t turn on again. However, after a couple of hours, she turned on, but the malfunction symbol immediately started flashing and the scooter made one long and four short chirps. After a while, the scooter started to turn on normally, but when you tried to move it out of place (without pressing the throttle trigger), the same squeaks started with an error code.
Nothing to do, had to disassemble. I even took out the controller to make sure there were no burnt black traces, as shown in some videos about repairing this kind of scooters, but everything turned out to be visually intact.
It turned out that one of the three motor lead connectors had melted and become a permanent connection. I had to bite into it and replace it with Wago 222.

Although the connector rang with zero resistance, after replacing it with Wago, everything worked.
The fact that an error with one long beep and four short beeps means loss of motor contacts is also confirmed by the fact that the same error appears if the motor leads are simply disconnected.
Apparently when trying to climb a very steep hill, the motor current was maximum, there was not very good contact in one of the connectors and it started to heat up. It got so hot that it melted and the contact got even worse.
Once again the thesis that electronics is the science of contacts was confirmed (if something does not work, in most cases there is no contact, where it should be, or it is where it should not be). 🙂
